Measurements Tips

How to Take Body Measurements

Taking accurate body measurements is one of the keys to great fit. Having accurate measurements is critical to the success of your fit.  All you need is a tape measure!    While it's easiest to have someone else take your measurements

Ideally, you should be measured wearing only your undergarments.  However, a leotard or close-fitting clothing will be fine.  Do NOT measure yourself wearing jeans, sweats, or other bulky clothing.  It DOES make a difference!

Because the body is made of soft tissue, it can be a bit difficult to know exactly how tight to pull the tape around the body. The tape should be a bit snug, but not tight - it should not "dig in" or make an indentation in the body.  It should not be loose, either!  Just wrap the tape around the area of the body being measured and hold it in place.  You should be able to put a finger behind the tape, but no more than that.

Important! Except for pants' cuff circumference and skirt/dress length, all measurements are body measurements. DO NOT ADD ANY EASE to the measurements, the program does it for you. DO NOT TIGHTEN MEASURING TAPE.

Back Waist, part one: Locate the most prominent bone at the base of the neck. This is accomplished by asking the person being measured to put her chin to her chest.

Back Waist, part two: Measure between this point and the natural waist, as indicated by the waist elastic. The back waist measurement is 15″.

Height: The person being measured should stand up straight, with her back against a wall. Use a retractable measuring tape to determine her height. She height is 5’ 3”.

Neck circumference: Measure around the low part of your neck

Shoulder length:Locate the shoulder points. These points are actually marked by your acromion bones, which can be found at the upper tips of your shoulders. measure from top shoulder seam to end of shoulder seam

Waist Height - Start at the shoulder (right next to the base of the neck), and measure to the waist, measuring over the fullest part of the bust.

Bust Circumference – Measure around the fullest part of your bust and straight across your back, keeping the tape a little loose for comfort.

Bust Width : Measure the width of bust from one nipple to another.

Waist Circumference - Measure the waist where the body bends.  It helps to bend side to side to identify exactly where to measure.  You can put an elastic band around the waist to mark the correct placement

Hip Circumference  - Measure the hips at the fullest part, usually around the seat

Arm Length from Shoulder - measure from the shoulder to the wrist. Add an additional half an inch to this measurement.

Length: measure from the waist to the finished length of the skirt

Length: measure from the waist to the finished outside hem length of the pants. Add two inches and a half to this length.

Crotch depth

Sit down on a firm chair with your feet flat on the floor and measure from the waist to the chair seat.

  • Abdomen Circumference; Wrap the tape measure around the widest part of the abdomen and breathe out normally. Pull the tape measure so that it sits on the surface of the skin, but doesn't compress the skin.

Women's Standard Measurements :Comparing your measurements with the measurement chart according to your height, it will help me as a guide to see if my measurements are good or out of proportion.
